IED Brazil

Created as a graduation project in Digital Design at Istituto Europeu do Design (IED), this installation was initially built only as a proof of concept but later the university decided to use it for their stand at PixelShow 2008.

The premise was to attract and inform people of the event even before in a relaxed and fun way, generating interest in the courses offered by IED.

Each person who played with the installation a comic book-style text balloon showed some information about the IED. When the user stopped playing this balloon would fall like a seed, generating one more flower in the scenario. Over time one could notice that many people stopped to play with the installation.

To capture the position of the people we used a camera on the ceiling that had its images analyzed in PureData. This information was transmitted by Open Sound Control (OSC) an application running in Flash that rendered the virtual garden.
